Project overview: Thomas Consultants Ltd (TCL) was engaged to provide asbestos demolition surveying services as part of a development for a new health facility in Taranaki. Fully intrusive demolition surveys were conducted on a former laundry building with a total floor area of 2000 square metres including services tunnels. Following surveying works, TCL will conduct background, control and reassurance air monitoring, provide site supervision and clearances once all ACM has been removed before building demolition.
Goal: The goal was to provide comprehensive demolition survey reports in a timely manner so that subsequent demolition and site preparation works can proceed without delay. During asbestos removal works, air quality monitoring and site supervision will be undertaken to ensure both a safe working environment and ensure that the surrounding areas are safe for both construction personnel, hospital staff and the general public as the surrounding areas will need to remain live during removal works. We are proposing to use our mobile fibre counting laboratory to enable quick turnaround times for air monitoring in order to minimise delays.
Process: The process involved working with the client to ensure that we could meet the deadlines for the project by providing our senior Asbestos Surveyors to the project. Our surveyors took a proactive approach, working with our client and their contractors to identify and mitigate any risks which may impact on this project.
Outcome: Our Asbestos Surveyors provided a great service to our client in completing the surveys on time and in budget.
