Who should remove asbestos?

If asbestos has been identified which needs to be removed you will most likely require a Licenced Asbestos Removalist. The only exception to this rule is that if the asbestos is 10 square metres or less and is non-friable asbestos in good condition. (in this case there should still be a competent person, with controls in place to ensure it is carried out safely)

There are two types of Removalists – Class A and Class B

  • Class A removalists can remove friable and non-friable asbestos.
  • Class B can only remove non-friable material.

Class A and Class B removalists must hold a licence issued by Worksafe NZ. You can check if they have one here . Non-licensed Removalists could put you at risk via poor removal techniques, which could result in the release of asbestos fibres which in turn pose a health risk and can cross contaminate other areas of your property.

Our team of Asbestos Assessors work closely with Licensed Removalists.

Our team can carry out asbestos testing and identification
