Project name: Carrington Road Housing Development
Site: Carrington Road, Mount Albert
Project overview: Thomas Consultants Ltd (TCL) was engaged to provide asbestos demolition surveying services as part of what could be New Zealands largest urban housing development in Mount Albert, Auckland. Fully intrusive demolition surveys were conducted on 15+ commercial and education buildings with total floor area exceeding 5000 square metres. Following surveying works, TCL reviewed contractor removal methodologies and asbestos removal control plans (ARCP). During the current removal works, Thomas Consultants is conducting background, control and reassurance air monitoring, providing site supervision and clearances once all ACM has been removed.
Goal: The goal was to provide comprehensive demolition survey reports in a timely manner so that subsequent demolition and site preparation works could proceed without delay. During asbestos removal works, air quality monitoring and site supervision is being undertaken to ensure both a safe working environment and ensure that the surrounding areas were safe for both construction personnel and the general public as the surrounding areas had to remain live during removal works.
Process: The process involved working with the client and the licensed asbestos removalists (ATL Group and Henderson Demolition) to ensure that we could meet the deadlines for the project by providing a dedicated Asbestos Assessor to the project. Our Asbestos Assessor takes a proactive approach, working with our client and their contractors to identify and mitigate any risks that may impact on this project.
Outcome: Our Asbestos Assessors and Surveyors provided a great service to our client in achieving progressive clearance certifications in time to allow subsequent demolition works to proceed without delay.
